چکیده

The assignment of resources or tasks to prbcessors in a distributed or parallel system needs to be done in a fashion that helps to balance the load and scales to large configurations. In an architectural model that distinguishes between local and remote data access, it is important to base these allocation functions on a mechanism that preserves locality and avoids high-latency remote references. This paper explores performance considerations affecting the design of such a mechanism, the Concurrent Pools data structure. We evaluate the effectiveness of three different implementations of concurrent pools under a variety of stressful workloads. Our experiments expose several interesting effects with strong implications for practical concurrent pool algorithms.

Evaluation of the heat transfer rate increases in retention pools nuclear waste

In this paper, we have tried to find a solution for quick transfer of nuclear wastes from pools of cool water to dry stores to reduce the environmental concerns and financial cost of burying atomic waste. Therefore, the rate of heat transfer from atomic waste materials to the outer surface of the container should be increased. This can be achieved by covering the bottom of the pool space with c...

IRWIN AND JOAN JACOBS CENTER FOR COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES CAFÉ: Scalable Task Pools with Adjustable Fairness and Contention

Task pools have many important applications in distributed and parallel computing. Pools are typ-ically implemented using concurrent queues, which limits their scalability. We introduce CAFÉ, Con-tention and Fairness Explorer, a scalable and wait-free task pool which allows users to control thetrade-off between fairness and contention. The main idea behind CAFÉ is to maintain a list...

Analysis of Chemical and Microbial Contents of Public Swimming Pools’ Water in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

This study assessed the chemical and microbial contents in the water of public swimming pools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A total of 16 public pools were selected through probability sampling from the 32 pools that existed in the five urban areas of Akwa Ibom State. Water samples were collected from the sampled pools and tested in the laboratory for chemical and microbial contents. Results sho...
